Habitat Seeks Families

Old Colony Habitat For Humanity continues to take applications for the energy star rated home they hope to build on Hawthorne Road in April. The deadline is Feb. 28. “It’s actually been really slow,” said Habitat chairperson Sheila Oliver. They have only received two applications. Some people have called asking if they are giving the house away. “But that’s not what we do,” Oliver said. “It’s a hand up, not a handout.” The home will cost approximately $135,000 to build, are sold to the partner families at no profit, and are financed with affordable, low interest loans. Members of the selection committee for Old Colony Habitat for Humanity will be on hand tonight from 7 to 8 p.m. at Town Hall to explain the selection process to any family wanting to throw a hat in the ring for a new home on Hawthorne Road.
