Columnist provides guides for holiday shopping.
Helmet? Check. Shoulder pads? Check. Rib pads? Check. Athletic supporter? Check. No, I'm not playing football in the high school Super Bowls or as quarterback for the Colts against the Patriots. Yes, I'm getting ready for Christmas shopping. This column isn't really for those who are adept at shopping and navigating the perils of the mall. I'm extremely jealous of those people. I wish they would take me with them to do my holiday shopping. I'd even pay a fee. I went to a certain store the other day with a holiday wreath in its logo, and they have a bargain theme to their commercials. My brother-in-law calls it the pistachio store, because they sell them there. I like the food, books and DVDs, but I just go nuts when I go there. The other…

Norton readers share what they are thankful for, memories.
What are you Thankful For? To honor Thanksgiving, and the many blessings to be thankful for, I'd like to personally say that I am beyond thankful, grateful, and blessed to work at NTCS and have the opportunity to watch God working in the next generations. I am thankful for a school that embraces it's students and their families. I am thankful for a staff that has the greatest power of all when a need arises- the power of prayer. And I'm thankful for the families who have sacrificed to give their children the opportunity to be here. Last, and most important, I am thankful for our God. -Amy Rogers of New Testament A healthy family!! What's better than that? -Lisa Downey Sheedy What are your Favorite Thanksgiving Memories? Columnists wants his turkey on Thanksgiving Day.
Growing up around here, there is no escaping the Pilgrims and the tale of the first Thanksgiving. My third grade class went to Plymouth to hear the tale of the Pilgrims and their first Thanksgiving. It was very cold on our bus trip, and I was very sick the whole day, but fortunately, my teacher wrapped me up in her fur coat and I was able to avoid frostbite. Basically, here's the historical drill: The Pilgrims settled in Plymouth, jumped on a rock in the harbor (see Plymouth Rock) and pitched their tents (see Plimouth Plantation) after arriving from England on their ship Mayflower, which is smaller than your average mini-van. In those early years, before Wal-Mart and fast food restaurants, they braved the conditions and the wilderness for …

Chance for children to meet Santa.
The Norton Parks and Recreation Department is gearing up for the annual Festival of Lights, which will be held 5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 4. The holiday celebration will take place in the Town Common. Santa and Mrs. Claus will arrive by fire truck and meet the children in Santa’s house for pictures. There will also be Christmas carols, hot chocolate and cookies. New this year is a craft station. Children will also be able to leave their letters to Santa in a mailbox and then will receive a personalized letter back. Memorial Lights purchased from the Norton Community Lions Club will also be lit on the Common Christmas tree in memory of loved ones. In addition to each name being posted next to the tree, they will also be read aloud during the …
