Varsity Wrestling Finishes Second in Marshfield Tournament

Junior varsity earns five gold medals.

On Tuesday and Wednesday, Norton wrestlers made a remarkable bid to win the prestigious Marshfield Holiday Tournament but finished a close second in the 32-team field against some of the best teams in the state. The Lancers scored 220.5 points, just 10 behind N. Andover's 230.5 and well ahead of N. Attleboro in third place with 168. The run for the title was marked by a balanced team effort. Norton entered 13 wrestlers and nine placed in the top eight with every wrestler on the team winning matches to contribute to the team's point total. The Lancers lived up to their state #1 ranking in division 3 placing ahead of all division 2 and 3 teams and behind only division 1 power N. Andover. Norton Wrestling Overcomes Holliston

Team takes step toward winning league title.

Last Wednesday the Norton High wrestlers traveled to Holliston to take on the defending Tri-Valley League and Division 3 Central Sectional champions and Division 3 State Dual Meet Runners-up. The Lancers knew that a win there would be essential in their quest to regain the league title and that the Panthers would be prepared to do battle. When the dust cleared, Norton had taken a hard-fought 46-24 victory and a major step toward winning another league title. With no wrestler at 106 lbs., Norton gave up a forfeit in the first weight class. Sophomore Ahrayah Saintius fought to the final buzzer at 113 lbs., but lost an exciting 17-10 decision giving Holliston an early 9-0 early lead. Norton Wrestling Ranked Number One in USA Wrestling Magazine

Norton High School the team to beat in Division III.

USA Wrestling Magazine recently ranked Norton High School #1 in their Massachusetts Division III preview for the coming season. "Norton High School is the team to beat in Division III,” said Tom Bartosek. “Although they will have a good dual meet team, the Lancers should be the favorite to win the individual state tournament championship.
