Norton Eighth Grade Boys "B" Team Secure Metrowest Championship

Win against Sudbury in playoffs 48-36.

Norton eigth grade boys B team completed their playoff run with a 48-36 win over Sudbury. With Cam Zanoni, Jared Kahn and Jack Ledbetter handled the bulk of the scoring while Luke Kane, John Hunter and John Weeks concentrated on controlling the rebounds. Aiden Kahn, Sean Cappellini, Ben Bishop, Andrew WalshKern and Alex Carignan played tireless defense to secure the win. The team ends their travel league careers with a championship. "Coach Jeff Kern and his assistant coaches Ted Kane and Steve Bishop couldn't be more proud of the boys and the fine effort they displayed during their championship run," said Ted Kane in a press release.

Three Town Residents Participate In Eighth-Grade All-Star Game

Division 1 travel team stars take part in contest on Saturday at Mansfield SportsPlex.

Three members of the Norton eighth-grade girls’ basketball Division 1 travel team participated in the talent-laden Mansfield SportsPlex-Select Hoops 2011 All-Star Showcase on Saturday night at the Mansfield SportsPlex. The M-Plex/Select Hoops Showcase is an all-star game featuring 25 of the top eighth-grade girls’ players from Eastern Massachusetts. Three standouts from the Norton Division 1 travel team took part in the game: Laura Johnson, Amy Pereira and Kyla Prosper. Johnson and Prosper played for Team Select Hoops, while Pereira was part of Team M-Plex. Johnson and Prosper’s squad emerged victorious as Team Select Hoops held off Pereira and Team M-Plex, 59-49. Norton Eighth Grade Girls’ Division 4 Travel Team Shows Resolve In Winning Crown

Locals bounce back from 4-8 regular-season mark to capture crown in their group.

The Norton eighth-grade girls’ basketball Division 4 travel team knows that anything can happen once you reach the postseason. As both sixth and seventh graders, Norton won the regular season title in Division 4 South, but then lost in the opening game of its group tournament in each of those years. But the locals turned the tables this winter. After a challenging regular season, which saw Norton compile a record of just 4-8, the team captured the eighth grade girls’ Group 7 tournament championship. “It made the season worthwhile,” said Norton head coach Mark Whalen of winning a championship. “It was a trying season, but the kids showed a lot of perseverance. Norton Trio To Compete In Eighth Grade All-Star Game

Three town residents will conclude their outstanding careers in travel league basketball by taking part in the 2011 Select Hoops Showcase on Saturday at the Mansfield SportsPlex. The M-Plex/Select Hoops Showcase is an all-star game featuring 25 of the top eighth-grade girls’ players from Eastern Massachusetts. The girls’ game will begin at 5 p.m., followed by the boys’ all-star game at 7 p.m. Both contests will be played at the Mansfield SportsPlex, which is located at 31 Oxford Road. Norton Eighth Grade Girls Complete Incredible Five-Year Run

Group finishes up as one of best travel teams in town history.

It has been a remarkable run for the Norton eighth grade girls’ basketball Division 1 travel team. During their five years together, which began in the fourth grade, this group of players has shown a great deal of improvement from one season to the next, while also winning 80 percent of their games along the way. “It has been great,” said Norton head coach Tim Dermody. “There are a tremendous amount of positives and great memories from the last five years. It has been a pleasure and a privilege to be able to coach these kids and it has always been about the kids. Tough Road To Title For Norton Eighth Grade Girls

Locals will face several talented teams in upcoming Group 1 Tournament.

If the Norton eighth-grade girls’ basketball Division 1 travel team wins its second consecutive MetroWest League championship next week, they would have earned it. Norton will be facing a very talented field when it begins play in the eighth-grade girls’ Group 1 Tournament on Sunday afternoon. The locals earned the top seed in the tournament after winning the Division 1 regular-season crown with an 11-1 record. Norton’s postseason will begin Sunday at 5 p.m. at Foxboro’s Ahern Middle School, facing the winner of Saturday’s contest between Sudbury and Walpole in the quarterfinals. Sudbury finished the regular season in fifth place in Division 1 with a 7-5 mark, but gave Norton quite a tussle last week in the regular-season finale for both …

Norton Eighth-Grade Girls Don’t Let Spotlight Effect Them

Local team wins regular-season league title with 11-1 record.

It is never easy playing an entire season with a target on your back. That’s what has faced the Norton eighth grade girls’ basketball Division 1 travel team this winter. But aside from one small setback a few weeks ago, the team has performed very well under those conditions. After recording a perfect 15-0 mark and capturing the MetroWest League’s seventh grade Group 1 tournament last winter, Norton entered this campaign as the team to beat. But the locals have responded to the challenge, winning 11 of 12 games and capturing the regular-season crown in the MetroWest League’s eighth grade girls’ Division 1. Norton won its first eight games of the season by at least 19 points. However, facing tougher competition in their final four games, …

Success Of Norton Eighth Grade Girls Continues

Travel team currently on 19-game league winning streak.

While there is still much work to be done, the Norton eighth grade girls' basketball Division 1 travel team has seemingly not skipped a beat from a year ago. Coming off a perfect 15-0 record and a championship in the MetroWest League's seventh grade girls' Group 1 Tournament last winter, the locals have begun this season with a perfect 4-0 mark. This group of players has now won 19 consecutive league games. The Norton eighth-grade team has gotten off to a dominant start to the year, winning those first four games by at least 20 points. The team has scored 49 points or more in all four games, while also surrendering 29 points or less during each victory. The first four games for Norton were all played at the Mass. Norton Eighth Grade Girls Remain Undefeated

Travel team shakes off slow start to earn big win over Westwood.

After getting off to a slow start, the Norton eighth grade girls' basketball Division 1 travel team settled in and went on to defeat Westwood 52-23 in a MetroWest League Division 1 contest on Sunday morning at the Mass. Premier Courts in Foxboro. The win improved the locals to 4-0 on the season. Guard Laura Johnson led the way with 19 points, including 11 in the second half. Center Kyla Prosper contributed 13 points, scoring seven in the first half and six in the second. Guard Ashley Pelletier scored seven points, including five in the third quarter, while forward Amy Pereira had five points total.
