Rabies Clinic to be Held Next Month

To take place April 6 at Norton Fire Department.

The annual rabies clinic will be held Saturday, April 6 10 to 11 a.m. at  the Town of Norton Fire Department, 70 E. Main Street.   The cost will be $13 per animal. Dogs must be on leashes and cats must be in carriers. For your convenience, the Town Clerk's Office will also be open from 10 to 11 a.m. to process dog licenses. The base fee for an altered dog is $10 and an unaltered dog is $15; late fees will apply. The last day to license dogs without incurring late fees was Feb. 28 and thus late fees will be applied. Late fees are $5 for the first month and $1 for each following month until the dog is licensed.   The only requirement for licensing dogs is that the rabies vaccination be active at the time of licensing, not for the entire …

Town Census, Dog Licensing Forms in Mail

Residents in Norton should be on the lookout for their annual town census and dog licensing forms in their mailboxes between Jan. 3 and 9. The annual census forms must be signed and returned to the Town Clerk’s Office within 10 days of receipt. Residents are reminded that census forms need to be returned even when no changes are necessary to their census information. In accordance with MGL Ch 51, Sec 4c, failure to respond to the annual census shall result in removal from the active voting list and may result in removal from the voter registration rolls. Online Dog Licensing and Payments Available

Licenses are due to expire Dec. 31.

Current 2012 dog licenses are due to expire Dec. 31. Dog licensing and payments may be done online at the Town of Norton website.    In order to take advantage of the online licensing and payment option, a current rabies certificate must be on file at the Town Clerk’s Office. For 2013 licenses a rabies certificate must have a 2013 expiration date.   Residents should know that they can license their dog as long as the rabies certificate is current at the time of licensing, you do not need to wait to have a new rabies certificate that covers the rest of the licensing year, although it is expected that you will update the dogs rabies at time of vaccination expiration and that you will provide the town clerks office with a copy.   If the …

Special Town Meeting Brief But Necessary

Wednesday's Special Town Meeting 12 articles long.

Wednesday's Special Town Meeting at Yelle Elementary School gym is only 12 articles long, and several of them will be withdrawn on the floor. But selectmen and outgoing Town Manager James Purcell are asking residents to show up, to discuss and vote on several important issues. In addition to authorizing payment of some outstanding bills, voters will be asked to approve the transfer of funds from several accounts to fund a three-year collective bargaining agreement with the firefighters union, Local 2678, for $125,000. A second budget article asks that $5,000 be transferred to the building inspector's office to cover the cost of entering abandoned properties in town and securing them by boarding them up, a service Town Manager Jim Purcell …
