Exciting Time at Deutsche Bank Championship

Local flavor makes it a special week for Deutsche Bank Championship at TPC Boston in Norton.

It was only fitting that the biggest Deutsche Bank Championship in the nine-year history of the golf tournament would also be the longest. A terrific battle on the back nine between Webb Simpson and Chev Reavie resulted in some exciting moments on the 18th hole and led to a two-hole playoff won by Simpson with a birdie on the 17th. Monday marked the first playoff in DBC history and concluded a terrific week, where the weather held off just long enough to complete the tournament. The week featured the homecoming of Keegan Bradley, the Hopkinton High graduate and former Hiller who was all over the place this week after winning the PGA Championship. After missing the cut at the hurricane-shortened Barclays last week in New Jersey, Bradley …

Clutch Putting Leads To Victory At Deutsche Bank Championship For Simpson

Simpson beats Reavie in first Deutsche Bank Championship playoff.

It is amazing how three putts, albeit three extremely clutch putts, has changed the life of Webb Simpson. With Chez Reavie holding a two-shot advantage during the final round of the Deutsche Bank Championship on Monday at TPC Boston in Norton, Simpson approached the 18th green just looking for an opportunity to get a little closer and maybe force a playoff. The 26-year old then buried a putt from 30 feet away to finish the first 72 holes at 15-under and move within one shot of Reavie. “I didn’t know that he birdied 16 until I was on the green on 18,” said Simpson. “I was reading my putt and I glanced at the leader board. I saw he was at 16. It just gave me more reason to try to make it. And then to make that putt, I thought that putt in …

Day To Forget For Watson at Deutsche Bank Championship

Final round score of 74 takes two-round leader out of contention.

With his 7-under par round of 64 during the second round and a 1-under par 70 during the third round, Bubba Watson was near or atop the leader board at the Deutsche Bank Championship for the better part of two days. That momentum continued into the early stages of the final round on Monday as he birdied the second hole to move to 12-under par for the tournament. But everything apart for Watson at that point as he shot 6-over par from there before somewhat saving his round with an eagle on the 18th hole. Watson finished the final round with an eagle, two birdies, eight pars and seven bogeys. Those seven bogeys matched the combined total he had over the first three days. The beginning of the end for Watson came on the fourth hole, when he …

Deutsche Bank Championship: Morning Proves Fruitful For Handful of Golfers

Four players take advantage of calm winds during morning wave to shoot 65 or better at Deutsche Bank Championship.

The rather calm morning conditions at TPC Boston in Norton proved to be beneficial for four players during the third round of the Deutsche Bank Championship on Sunday. With a tee time of 7:50 a.m., 2007 DBC champion Phil Mickelson had the best round of the day with an 8-under par round of 63. “It was pretty calm when we played,” said Mickelson, following Sunday’s round. “We had excellent conditions. It might be picking up a little bit in the afternoon. I’m not too sorry to hear that. But it was really calm and nice when we played this morning.” Robert Karlsson, teeing off at 9 a.m., shot a 7-under par 64, while 2010 DBC champion Charley Hoffman (8 a.m.) and Camilo Villegas (7:30 a.m.) each shot 6-under par 65s. During his round on Sunday, …

Emotional Week Finally Catches Up To Bradley

Hopkinton High graduate misses cut by one stroke after shooting a 76 at Deutsche Bank Championship Saturday.

It was bound to happen at some point. It was only a matter of time before the emotional and action-packed week was going to catch up to Keegan Bradley. Unfortunately that time was Saturday as the Hopkinton High graduate and former Hiller standout missed the cut at the Deutsche Bank Championship by one shot after shooting a 5-over par round of 76 during the second round at the TPC Boston course in Norton. The 25-year-old showed no ill affects of his crazy week during the first round on Friday as he fired a 3-under par 68 with four birdies, 13 pars and one bogey. On Saturday, Bradley played well on the front nine, the only blemish being a bogey on his first hole of the day. But he ran into a lot more trouble on the back, shooting a 4-over …

Three-Way Tie at Deutsche Bank Championship

Bubba Watson, Charl Schwartzel and Adam Scott sit atop leader board at the Deutsche Bank Championship.

Bubba Watson and Brandt Snedeker set the tone early during the second round of the Deutsche Bank Championship on Saturday, but late charges by Adam Scott, Charl Schwartzel and Nick Watney left five players within two shots of the lead entering the final two rounds. Watson, Schwartzel and Scott are all part of a three-way tie atop the leader board with two-day totals of 10-under par 132. Snedeker is in fourth place with a 9-under par 133 with Watney is fifth with an 8-under par total of 134. Playing in the morning wave, Watson and Snedeker each fired a 7-under par 64 on Saturday. But Scott, Schwartzel and Watney advanced up the leader board during the afternoon session. Scott had the best round of the day, firing an 8-under par 63. …

Who to Watch in Deutsche Bank Championship's third round

All eyes will be on the leaders Sunday in the Deutsche Bank Championship in Easton.

Now, it's on to the third round of the Deusche Bank Champions Sunday at TPC-Boston in Norton. Adam Scott is being paired with Brandt Snedeker in the third round, teeing off at 1:30 p.m., followed by the other leaders Bubba Watson and Charl Schwartzel. Scott, Watson and Schwartzel are all tied for the spot at 10 under. Nick Watney and Richie Fowler will be teeing off at 1:10 p.m. Opening round leader Troy Matteson, who is a 6 under and Zach Johnson, 5 under, are paired together as both look to move up the leader board. Dustin Johnson was No. 1 in the FedEx Cup standings after winning the Barclays last week. He will be playing with last year's Deutsche Bank Champion Charley Hoffman. Both are plus 1 for the first two days. To find out the …
