Middle School Basketball Team to be Honored at School Committee Meeting

Meeting to take place 6:30 p.m. in the Norton Middle School library.

The Norton Middle School girls basketball team, who won the Massasoit League Title, will be recognized at Monday night's Norton School Committee meeting.  The girls beat Westport 27-18 Feb. 14 and went undefeated 18-0 on the season. Also on the agenda, the committee will discuss the fiscal 2014 budget. The Norton School Committee presented their recommended fiscal year 2014 budget of just over $24M Feb. 25, an increase of just under $1.6 million from the fiscal year 2013. Norton High School Students Tapped to Participate in DECA International Career Development Conference

Sponsorships, donations being sought.

Norton High School students Jillian Allard (Restaurant Food Service Marketing), Bryce McCarthy (Leadership Institute), and the team of Nick Petersen and Daniel Rafuse (Sports and Entertainment Marketing) are among an elite group of high school students that will travel to Anaheim, Calif., April 23 to April 28, to participate in DECA’s International Career Development Conference. Here are the notes from last night's School Committee meeting in order from what you care about the most according to yesterday's poll. #1 High School Building Project Update Since the School Committee last met, there have been no major changes. However, Superintendent Dr. Patricia Ansay met with Norton High School principal Raymond Dewar and about a half dozen engineers met and reviewed classroom designs. According to Dewar, architects also sought input from high school faculty on what they’d like to see. Comments were sent to the project manager. #2 Budget Discussion The operating budget of Norton Public Schools for fiscal year 2012 was $22.5 million. So far, $5.1 million has been spent. Norton DECA to Hold Second Annual Evening of Parties

Major fundraiser of the year for DECA competition.

The local Norton DECA chapter, a business-oriented organization that helps provide its members with an idea of the world of business and finance, is holding its major fundraiser of the year Wednesday, Nov. 16. The chapter members will be hosting an Evening of Parties where vendors such as Pampered Chef, Avon, Mary Kay, Tupperware, Creative Memories and many other in-house vendors will be at the high school to sell their products and services. This fundraiser is being held in an effort to help the local organization raise money to help pay for competitions of the district, state and national levels. If the students do well at competition, they receive national recognition along with scholarship opportunities to help them wehn they go to …
