The Wheaton College men's cross country team has been named to the 2012 U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic Cross Country Team list, it was announced earlier this week. The Lyons posted a 3.24 cumulative grade point average (GPA) which ranked fourth overall among all New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) teams listed. Academically, senior Michael Richard (Chicopee, Mass./Holyoke Catholic) earned NEWMAC Academic All-Conference accolades this past fall for the third-straight season to highlight the squad in the classroom. The Wheaton College cross country teams competed at the NCAA New England Championships on Saturday afternoon at Stanley Park, hosted by Westfield State University. The Wheaton women placed 15th overall out of 51 teams while the men ranked 29th out of 50 squads in their final meet of the 2012 season. On the women's side, MIT captured first place honors with 58 points while Williams ranked second overall (75) and Middlebury checked in at third (89). In the men's race, Middlebury finished first overall with 91 points, Bowdoin placed second (101) and Bates came in at third overall (105). The Wheaton College men's and women's cross country teams finished their third meet in as many weeks on Saturday at the annual University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth Invitational. The women placed 14th out of 38 teams with 402 points, while the men finished in 26th place in the 39-team field with 804 points. For the third consecutive week, freshman Jordan Silva (North Kingstown, R.I./North Kingstown) was Wheaton's top runner, as she cracked the top 50 among nearly 300 finishers. Crossing the 5,000-meter run finish line in 19:46, Silva took 49th overall. Girls lose to dominant Holliston team.
Norton boys varsity cross country acheived a 34-22 victory over Holliston Wednesday while girls lost 49-15. Billy Sullivan came in first with Max Marcotte, Mik Tierney, Cam Eisnor and Mason Rouillard right behind. The boys are now 7-3, their best record in the Tri-Valley League history. Thirteen runners achieved personal records. Though the girls acheived six personal records for themselves, they fell to Holliston. Corina Jurczyk put a stop to the Panthers potential perfect score by coming in 7th. Norton will next compete in the Tri-Valley League Championships Tuesday at McCarthy Park in Medfield at 3:25 p.m., followed by girls varsity at 4 p.m.

The Lancer boys won 25-30 in a tight match against a determined Dover-Sherborn team while the Norton girls were outnumbered and overpowered 49-15. On the boys side, Billy Sullivan, Max Marcotte and Mike Tierney took the first three spots for Norton. Fourth and fifth runners Cam Eisnor and Mason Rouillard sealed the deal. Norton placed second, third, fifth, seventh and eight while Dover-Sherborn took first, fourth, sixth, ninth and 10th. The boys tied for the most wins in cross country since joining the Tri-Valley league at 6-2 (including non-league). The boys and girls Cross Country teams met at Hospital Hill on Monday.
Medfield High School Boys and Girls Cross Country teams defeated Norton at Medfield's Hospital Hill on Monday, Sept. 24. The Lancer girls lost 48 - 15 while the boys lost 35 - 21. The Lancers Cross Country teams have started the new year with wins against Bellingham.
The Norton High School boys and girl’s cross country seasons have officially begun, and on Wednesday, both squads earned important victories against Bellingham. The boys are currently 2-0, while the girls are 1-1. Both teams will compete against Hopkinton 3 p.m. Monday in a home meet. The Wheaton College men's and women's cross country teams look to rebound following a tough 2011 season, as the Lyons hope to turn things around with a youth movement. Wheaton welcomes nine newcomers on the women's side and three freshman males. "We hope the infusion of youth with these new team members will help reenergize the program," said 14th-year head coach Paul Carr, who led the women to a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championship in 2004.
