Everyone is Irish on St. Patrick’s Day, aren’t they? In that spirit, I have included some activities for all ages in this edition of Hooray for Holidays! Of course, there are always the tried and true ways to celebrate almost any holiday: play dough, sugar cookie decorating, preparing traditional foods. Here are some Irish-themed art projects for your enjoyment: Sensory Shamrocks Obviously, store bought play dough can easily substituted for the homemade. But if time allows, the science lesson that cooking provides is an added bonus. The recipe I have provided requires cooking, so it requires adult supervision. Children listen to stories, sing, dance and make crafts in celebration of Thanksgiving.
Families were invited to Norton Public Library's Turkey Family Storytime program today. The event included Thanksgiving related book readings, music and activities. The library offered this program to celebrate Family Literacy Month. The first few minutes were filled in by Bill Brennan of the Massachusetts Department of Children and Families, who spoke about foster care. He noted that the holidays are an especially important time to get parents on board. "Kids come into care for many reasons, such as protective services," Brennan said. He added that foster parents are needed to welcome children in their home with the issues they bring into it. The average stay of a foster child is somewhere between three to 18 months.
