Agenda for June 11 School and Conservation Committee Meetings

The Conservation Committee will meet tonight to go over the Pheeny's Island project and other items. Though the meeting will begin 7 p.m. at Town Hall, it will be moved to Norton Public Library at 8:30 p.m. to make room for a large crowd.  The School Committee will start their 6 p.m. meeting off by interviewing a candidate for the interim superintendent position. Look for Charter changes in the mail, roads to stay open during water main upgrade.

“I think I understand that it probably seems long, two weeks to make a decision here, but we have to make the right decision. I think it’s important that everyone is satisfied with their choice,” said selectmen Tim Giblin. “We are looking for someone open-minded, and doesn’t have an ax to grind so to speak,” added selectmen Robert Kimball. “I’m looking for someone who just wants to come and serve the town. No hidden agenda, just wants to come in and do what they think is best."

Conservation Committee Meeting to be Held Concerning Pheeny's Island Project

To the editor: When I purchased my home on South Lakeview Rd. in Norton back in 1990 I did so mainly because of the location.  It is on the water, has great views of sunsets, lots of interesting birds and other wildlife, and relatively quiet.  The highway (I495) produces some background noise and the sounds coming from the Great Woods Center for the Performing Arts were rather pleasant.  That changed in a very negative way after the owners discovered they could make more money with rock bands than with the Pittsburgh Symphony.  But I knew that the residential nature of the area, including Pheeny's Island which is just offshore, would not change because it is zoned "Residential".  In fact, the island got its name because the Pheeny family …
