Wheaton earned its 13th-straight NCAA Tournament appearance.
The Wheaton College women's soccer team will be honored for its outstanding 2012 season this Saturday, February 16 at halftime of the men's basketball game versus Springfield College. The Lyons are scheduled to tip-off against the Pride at 2 p.m. on "Senior Day." The women's soccer team finished its 2012 season with an 18-2-6 record overall and 7-1-1 mark in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC). The Lyons, who earned their 13th-straight trip to the NCAA Tournament with an at-large bid last fall, hosted the first round of the tournament and went on to win both of their games before bowing out in the sectional semifinals to Carnegie Mellon. Four Penmen seniors, including Jordan Branco of Norton, garnered All-Region honors. Branco was named to the Third Team All-America by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. Branco, a Northeast-10 Second Team All-Conference selection, finished 2012 as the second-leading scorer on the Penmen despite missing three games, totaling six goals and a team-high nine assists for 21 points this season. Over his three seasons in a Penmen uniform, Branco totaled 17 goals and 18 assists for 52 points and was a two-time NE-10 All-Conference selection. Southern New Hampshire University senior Jordan Branco was named Wednesday to the Capital One Academic All-America men's soccer team. Branco was a Second Team selection. For the second straight year, he was honored as a Second Team selection. He becomes the second two-time Academic All-American in SNHU history, as former Penmen women’s lacrosse standout Julie Kraus was honored in 2008 and 2009. Southern New Hampshire has now had a total of 13 Capital One Academic All-Americans. The Capital One Academic All-America and All-District teams are selected by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Norton resident Jordan Branco was named the 2011-12 SNHU’s Scholar-Athletes of the Year at Southern New Hampshire University. The announcement was made during the University’s 47th annual awards ceremony held recently at the Center of New Hampshire Radisson in downtown Manchester. Branco, a junior, recently wrapped up his second season with the Penmen soccer program. In 2011 he garnered Northeast-10 Third Team All-Conference honors after finishing second on the team in goals (10), assists (6) and points (26). Branco also finished second in the NE-10 in scoring, behind only teammate Chris Tsonis. He tallied four game-winning goals on the season and had a goal and an assist in SNHU’s win over C.W.
