Norton Resident Honored by UMass Lowell

Jared Ide receives scholarship.

Jared Ide of Norton was recently honored at the University of Massachusetts Lowell's second annual Celebration of Scholarship Luncheon. Ide is majoring in plastics engineering. The celebration, held at the UMass Lowell Inn & Conference Center, brought together 300 individuals who have endowed scholarships and the students who have received them. UMass Lowell chancellor Marty Meehan told the donors and students in attendance that giving to scholarships and other areas of the university is important. "We have to be entrepreneurial in our approach to ensuring the growth of UMass Lowell and private support is absolutely essential to that effort," Meehan said. Becoming My Own Person

Nicole Ellison writes her last journalism assignment as a Norton High School student.

Being a high school student can be stressful yet exciting all at the same time. This will be my last summer as a high school student because next year I will be going to college. I am so excited to finally be going off into the world and becoming my own person. However, it is very nerve-wracking and stressful. This year has been so hard because we are talking about SAT's and college applications. Even though it is hard, I think this year has been really fun and one of the best. I have met all sorts of new friends and the amount of work has let me test my abilities.  High school so far has completely flown by for me. Being a high school student has been a wonderful experience so far as I am sure being in college will too. Also, getting a …

PLTW Program Offered at Southeastern Regional

Project Lead the Way gives high school students the opportunity to earn college credits.

What do Purdue, Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI), Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) and Penn State - to name a few- have in common?  These universities all participate in the federally-sponsored Project Lead the Way program. One of the most attractive aspects of the PLTW program is that by completing a high school course in an approved engineering course and passing the year end college assessment test, your child can earn college credits worth thousands of dollars at prestigious colleges before even graduating high school.  Although much effort was needed to align the course curriculum and meet the specifications of the Project Lead the Way …
