Wheaton women's soccer coach is second-fastest coach with 300 wins

Wheaton College head women's soccer coach Luis Reis became the sixth active coach and 12th overall in Division III women's soccer history to reach the 300-win milestone when his nationally-ranked Lyons defeated host Clark University in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) game on Saturday.  Reis accomplished the milestone in just 372 games.  Joe Russo at The College of New Jersey did so in 350 matches.     Boasting the fifth-highest winning percentage among all Division III women's soccer coaches with a minimum of 10 years as a coach, Reis entered the year with an astounding 285-49-18 record, good for an .835 clip.  He is in elite company, ranking eighth in winning percentage among all NCAA women's coaches and fifth…

Norton Remembers Beloved Teacher

Peter Leddy passes away after battle with cancer.

Norton continues to mourn the loss of long-time Norton High School teacher Peter Leddy today, who died from his battle with cancer Sunday. Leddy was a member of the science department of Norton High School for over 30 years. In his time at NHS, Leddy was also a volleyball and softball coach, science department chair and photographer. “He attended virtually every NHS activity and was a tremendous mentor to younger teachers,” said NHS principal Raymond Dewar. “Peter, to me, was a good friend. I admired his love of learning, his love of teaching and his ongoing desire to become better at both teaching and learning. He was always positive and ready to help. He will be missed by Norton High School,” Dewar said. Leddy was officially diagnosed …

Instead Of Rebuilding This Year, Norton Boys Basketball Just Reloaded

Despite losing 11 players the last two years, the Lancers continue to thrive under 10-year head coach Marc Liberatore.

During the four-year tournament run of the Norton High boys’ basketball team, this has been the best coaching job done by Marc Liberatore. After losing 11 key or contributing players the last two years to graduation or transfer, it was looking as if it was going to be a rebuilding year for the 10-year head coach and the Lancers this winter. But since a disappointing loss to Millis at home two days before Christmas, which left the team with a 3-2 mark, Norton has won 11 of its last 15 games to stand with an impressive overall record of 14-6. The way that Norton has been able to fill the voids left the last two years, shows the talent, depth and success that Liberatore has developed during his 10 years running the Norton boys’ basketball …

McCoy Moves On

Tumultuous second half of season ends with resignation of former Lancer coach.

From the moment he was suspended for one game by Durfee High School and its athletic department, there was a real possibility that Robb McCoy’s days as the Hilltopper head football coach were numbered. That’s why it really came as no surprise when the former Norton High teacher and coach resigned his coaching position following Durfee’s 21-7 loss to New Bedford on Thanksgiving Day. McCoy looked to right the ship that is the Durfee football program as the Hilltoppers owned a 3-3 record after their first six games this year. Prior to McCoy taking over the team at the start of this season, Durfee lost 20 of 21 games during the 2008 (0-10 record) and 2009 (1-10) campaigns. But consecutive losses to Brockton and Somerset were followed up by a …
