Unemployment data in Norton for April 2012 shows improvement from the March 2012 unemployment rate.
The unemployment rate in the town of Norton fell .8 percent in the month of April, according to numbers released by the state Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development last week. The town saw its rate fall from 6.7 percent in March to 5.9 percent in April. The unemployment rate last April in 2011 was 7 percent. In Massachusetts, the rate fell from 6.5 percent in March 2012 to 6.3 percent in April 2012. The unemployment rates for area towns follow:

Dear Kelly Mello: Something in our community that deserves recognition is Norton High School’s School to Career program. This program gives me and other students the privilege to gain work experience in careers of our interest. For this particular program it is a course that juniors and seniors get to chose for credits rather than taking alternative regular ones. The School to Career program allows students to decide if they truly want to work in a particular work field before it is chosen and they dislike it. Many high school students including myself have no idea what they want to go to college for and that can be very stressful. Town resident becomes school’s all-time leading scorer on Tuesday night.
On a night filled with nerves, emotion and excitement, town resident and basketball standout Brenna Gonsalves became the all-time leading scorer at Coyle-Cassidy during a 51-32 victory over Bishop Stang in an Eastern Athletic Conference game on Tuesday night in Taunton. Gonsalves, a senior captain and three-guard for the Warriors, entered the game needing just 12 points to break the all-time scoring record at the school, held by 1996 graduate Eric Ferris, who scored 1,397 points during a stellar career with the Warriors.
