Norton Officers Deliver Christmas Cards to Young Cancer Patient

Patrolmen Bryan King and James Cameron among 260 officers to fulfill wish of Nathan Norman.

Members of the Norton Police Department travelled to Virginia Wednesday to fulfill the Christmas wish of a very special boy. The dying wish of 5-year-old Nathan Norman was to receive cards from police, fire and EMS personnel. Patrolmen Bryan King and James Cameron were among the 260 officers from 83 agencies who made the trip. Members of the Norton Police Honor Guard, they were a part of a caravan of approximately 100 police cruisers along Route 495. Norton Police Chief Brian Clark said the department heard about Nathan’s wish through social media. Leah for Lia

Leah Fernandes Memorial 5k to support Lia Scagnoli who was diagnosed with kidney cancer.

In the second year of the Leah Fernandes Memorial 5k, yet another family will benefit from the generosity of Norton.  This year, a portion of funds from the run will go toward helping 3-year-old Lia Scagnoli, daughter of Peter and Tara Scagnoli of Norton. Lia was recently diagnosed with kidney cancer and will soon undergo surgery and treatments. “We hope it can help ease their minds just a bit,” Tracy said. A team will be running in honor of Lia and selling orange team bracelets for $5 each on race day to support the family. According to an update made by the Scagnoli family, Lia knows that 'Team Lia' exists. ‘She will often ask, ‘Mama, can you tell me again about all of the people that are thinking about me?’ This is as comforting to her …

Norton Aubuchon Supports Pediatric Cancer Research and Care

A Chance for Kids promotion cards to benefit Dana-Farber Cancer Institute available through September 3 at hardware store.

Through Sept. 3, Aubuchon Hardware customers can help fight childhood cancers by giving $1 to the Jimmy Fund through the A Chance for Kids program. The hardware store chain’s goal is to raise more than $50,000 for pediatric cancer research and care at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.   With each contribution, customers will receive a promotion card guaranteed to be a winner with prizes ranging from all-inclusive resort vacations, airline tickets, theme park admissions and merchandise discounts at Aubuchon Hardware, Olympia Sports and on Burger King food.  Now celebrating its 13th anniversary, the A Chance for Kids program has raised more than $10.9 million for Dana-Farber. Ms. Kelly Mello: Jimmy Fund Golf extends its sincerest thanks to the organizers and sponsors of the Jimmy Fund Players Tournament held on June 18, at The Players Club- Boston, in Norton, Mass. Running for a Cure [VIDEO]

Community participates in Leah Fernandes Memorial 5k Walk/Run.

Two-hundred and fifty one runners participated in the Leah Fernandes Memorial 5K Saturday in honor of a little girl who moved the region in a big way. Leah, a 5-year-old girl who lost a battle with an aggressive form of cancer called medulloblastoma passed away July 26. With proceeds from the run, her legacy will live on through a scholarship fund for her brother Lukas as well as pediatric brain cancer research at Dana-Farber Cancer Instutute. Kate Tracy and Sally Junkins organized the event, each for similiar reasons. Tracy’s sister went to high school with Rhiannon, Leah’s mother. They reconnected through Facebook, which was how Tracy found out Leah was sick. Junkins knows the family through her first job working at the family’s store. …

Runners to Take Their Spot in Memory of Leah

Saturday, Sept. 24 is the 5K Walk/Run in memory of Leah Fernandes, who lost her battle with cancer this year.

Family friends, Kate Tracy and Sally Junkins have coordinated the Leah Fernandes Memorial 5k Walk/Run on Saturday, Sept. 24 in Norton in memory of Leah Fernandes who lost her courageous battle with brain cancer in July.  Friends and strangers have organized several events for the Fernandes family both during Leah's struggle and in her memory. The efforts included a motorcycle ride, a bake sale, a lemonade stand, a car wash and a race at Seekonk Speedway. Organizers encourage the community to join together once again for Leah and her family.

Current And Former Patriots Gather At TPC Boston For a Good Cause

Third annual Joe Andruzzi and Friends Golf Tournament raises money for cancer patients and their families.

While the talk was predominantly about the NFL lockout on Monday at TPC Boston, the real reason that several current and former New England Patriot players traveled to Norton was for the third annual Joe Andruzzi and Friends Golf Tournament. The tournament is held to raise money for cancer patients and their families. All proceeds from the event benefit the Joe Andruzzi Foundation, which provides financial assistance for patients and their families as well as help fund pediatric brain cancer research. “We’re trying to raise as much money as we can to help as many families as we can,” said Andruzzi, prior to the start of the tournament on Monday. “We’ve really grown over the years. Former Patriots Star Joe Andruzzi Hits the Links for Cancer Patients at Golf Tournament

Local celebrities and professional athletes participate in the Joe Andruzzi and Friends Golf Tournament at TPC.

There won’t be tackles or touchdowns, but there just might be birdies and eagles on May 23, when some of the area’s professional athletes and celebrities swing their clubs for cancer patients and their families at the third annual Joe Andruzzi and Friends Golf Tournament at the Tournament Players Club. Andruzzi, a former New England Patriot and a cancer survivor, will join forces with  former teammates, current players, celebrities and friends during the four-person scramble benefiting the Joe Andruzzi Foundation, which offers financial assistance to cancer patients and their families and funds pediatric brain cancer research.
