Norton Schools Get a Snow Day

Norton to receive up to 12 inches of snow.

Due to the weather, school for Norton will be closed Friday. Heavy, wet snow and strong winds are the cause for Norton's school doors to be closed today, as a winter storm warning will remain into effect until 1 p.m. Total snow accumulations will be 8 to 12 inches. Wind will be 15 to 25 MPH with gusts up to 55 mph with temperatures in the 30s. New Testament Christian School, Southeastern Regional Vocational Technical High School, Bishop Feehan High School and Cardinal Spellman High School are also closed. This is the fourth school cancellation of the year for Norton Public Schools. Before today, the scheduled last day of school was Monday, June 24.

It is now sunday at 10:30 am. Our roads are not plowed and the roads that are are not in very good shape. I think a plow only went down Resevior one time. This is not acceptable. Everyone in Norton knows that property taxes went up about 300.00 to 700.00 per year, so where did the money go; sure not to the plowing department. Due to the arrival of Hurricane Sandy, many municipal and commercial buildings in Norton will be closing up shop Tuesday. Storm Watch: Snow Causes School Cancellation, Rough Commute

Weather warning issued by National Weather Service.

Though we are not on red alert like for the past two snowstorms, National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning. Superintendent Dr. Patricia Ansay has canceled Norton Public School for today, Friday, Jan. 21. Southeastern Regional School District also canceled school. "Due to the expected difficult road conditions tomorrow morning, school will be closed tomorrow! Enjoy the weekend and drive carefully," Southeastern said on its website Thursday night. Snow will begin about 3 a.m. today, and will come to an end from west to east by early to mid afternoon, possibly making commuting a problem. Norton Snow Storm Update

Up to two feet of snow expected.

There are 748 National Grid customers without power right now, due to the snowstorm that dumped over a foot of snow on the ground. And it hasn’t ended. According to National Weather Service, it will snow through 1 a.m. early Thursday morning. Today there will be a high near 31 with a northwest wind around 20 miles per hour, with gusts as high as 39 miles per hour. Total daytime snow accumulation of 5 to 9 inches is possible. Tonight it will be cloudy with a low of around 21 degrees and a northwest wind between 10 and 16 miles per hour, with gusts as high as 36 miles per hour. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent.
