One theory about how Santa gets all his work done is: Coffee. Lots of it. Even if you're not St. Nick, if you need to stay alert driving on Christmas night, the state's highway service areas are here to help. All 18 Department of Transportation service plazas will serve up free java from 10 p.m. on Dec. 25 to 5 a.m. on Dec. 26. The same offer applies on New Year's Eve. That's between 10 p.m. Dec. 31 and 5 a.m. Jan. 1 The free coffee is sponsored by McDonalds, Burger King and Gulf. Here is a list of all 18 service plazas in Massachusetts.
Significant damage to building but no injuries after fire Sunday night.
A two-alarm fire ripped through Burger King at Easton's five corners Sunday night, causing significant damage to the building. Norton Fire Department was on scene to help. There were no injuries reported, according to Easton Fire Chief Kevin Partridge. The cause of the fire, which started in the building's cieling, is still unknown and under investigation, Partridge said. The assistant general manager was in his office when he heard crackling coming from the cieling. He quickly got himself and the other two employees out of the building, according to the chief.
