Three town residents carry momentum from basketball season into spring campaign.
After helping the Coyle-Cassidy High girls’ track team to a second-place finish in the Eastern Athletic Conference during the dual-meet season, three town residents all put forth excellent performances as the Warriors placed second during the EAC Championship Meet this past Saturday at Bishop Feehan High in Attleboro. Senior captains Brenna Gonsalves and Kelsey Dermody and junior Courtney Preston have all been important contributors to the success of Coyle-Cassidy during the outdoor track campaign this spring. All three were also key performers as the Warrior basketball team reached the MIAA Division 3 state semifinals this past winter. Gonsalves has been a standout in several events this season, including the high jump and the long jump …

Though she has moved on to spring track, which will be followed by graduation and then college, the 2010-11 season of the Coyle-Cassidy girls’ basketball team will be one that town resident Brenna Gonsalves won’t soon forget. As a senior captain and three-guard, Gonsalves helped lead the Warriors to one of the best seasons in the program’s history as they reached the Division 3 state semifinals. The list of accomplishments by Gonsalves and Coyle-Cassidy from this past season is quite impressive. The Warriors set a school record for victories during the regular season and also tied the school record for wins in a full season. Gonsalves and Coyle advanced deeper in the postseason than any team since the state championship squad of 1987, …

In a season filled with accolades, record-setting performances and heart-stopping moments, town resident Brenna Gonsalves was not quite ready yet for her career with the Coyle-Cassidy High girls’ basketball team to come to an end.
