Don’t pay full price when you go out!

I’m lucky if we go out to eat once or twice a month, and to the movies once a year (I’m not kidding). Although you SHOULD have a date night with your sweetie once a week, that doesn’t seem to happen in our house. When we DO go out, we go with coupons or certificates in hand to save a bundle. I always ask for restaurant gift certificates for presents – that way I get out of the kitchen! Last week we went to  99 Restaurant & Pub to celebrate our daughter’s birthday. I mentioned to the manager and the waitress that we were celebrating, and when it was time for desert, they brought out a nice hot fudge sundae with a candle and sang to her. No Charge! When the bill came, I used a $5 off coupon from the newspaper and a $50 gift certificate from …

How to have fun on a shoestring.

In my never-ending quest to save money, I will share with Patch Readers the story of how I filled a summer vacation day full of fun for my four children. You can put these tips into action for this week’s school vacation! The day started with a free movie at Showcase Cinemas in Randolph. They were showing previously run movies, but who cares – they’re kid movies on the big screen! Bring your big purse and fill with snacks so you don’t have to buy the overpriced concession items at the theatre. Cost: $-0- Next stop was Ryan’s Amusements for bowling to use the gift certificate one of the kids won as a prize in the reading program at the library.
