Norton High Boys' Basketball Draws Winner of Canton Vs Abington in State Tournament

The MIAA released its postseason state tournament brackets for boys’ high school basketball on Friday.

The MIAA released its postseason state tournament brackets on Friday. The Norton boys' basketball team was named the fifth seed in the Division 3 South Bracket.  The Lancers will face the winner of No. 12 Abington vs No. 21 Canton at Norton High School on Feb. 27 at 7:00 p.m. Last year, No. 11 Westwood defeated No. 6 Norton in an upset, 54-50, in the first round of the MIAA Divsion 3 South Sectional basketball tournament. The Lancers finished the 2012-2013 season as Tri-Valley League champions with a record of 14-4 in league play and 15-4 overall.

Women’s Basketball Upends Mount Holyoke College On Senior Day [VIDEO]

The Wheaton College women's basketball team posted a 64-52 victory over Mount Holyoke College on Saturday afternoon in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) matchup at Emerson Gymnasium on "Senior Day." Prior to tip-off, seniors Gabby Barbera (Ridgewood, N.J./Ridgewood), Jana Jagodzinski (Old Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich) and Hallie Vitagliano (Newton, Mass./Newton North) were all honored for their contributions towards the women's basketball program. Wheaton sophomore forward Abbie Brickley (Sandy, Utah/Skyline)led the Lyons offensively with 21 points on 7-of-10 shooting, 11 rebounds, three assists, two blocks and one steal. Men’s Basketball Turned Away By Springfield College On Senior Day [VIDEO]

The Wheaton College men's basketball was dealt a 64-49 loss by Springfield College on Saturday afternoon in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action at Emerson Gymnasium on "Senior Day." Prior to the game, seniors Brian Johnson (Roxbury, Mass./Brimmer and May School), Scott Faucher (Lebanon, N.H./Kimball Union Academy), Phil Gensicki (North Haven, Conn./Notre Dame) and Mike Hall (Lynnfield, Mass./Saint John's Prep) were all honored for their contributions towards the men's basketball program. Four-year student administrative assistant Caitlin Hampton (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) was also honored for before tip-off for her assistance to the program. The Wheaton College women's basketball team dropped a 60-51 decision to Clark University on Monday night at Emerson Gymnasium in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) matchup. Tonight's game was originally scheduled for Saturday, February 9 but was postponed twice due to the recent blizzard that hit the New England region. Wheaton sophomore forward Abbie Brickley (Sandy, Utah/Skyline)scored a game-high 22 points on 7-of-14 shooting from the field (8-for-10 at the free throw line), eight rebounds, three steals and one assist. The Wheaton College men's basketball team fell to Coast Guard Academy, 64-58, on Sunday afternoon in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) matchup at Roland Gym in a makeup game which was originally scheduled for February 9.  Freshman guard Billy Battaglia (Simsbury, Conn./The Taft School)compiled a team-high 20 points on 7-of-11 shooting from the field, including a 4-for-6 performance from three-point range, and five rebounds. Wellesley College staved off a late rally from the Wheaton College women's basketball team to post a 70-56 victory over the Lyons in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action on Wednesday night at the Dorothy Towne Fieldhouse.  Wheaton sophomore guard Kenzie Kuhn (Glenwood Springs, Colo./Glenwood Springs) recorded a team-high 11 points, two rebounds and two assists. Classmate Abbie Brickley (Sandy, Utah/Skyline) contributed ten points, a team-high seven rebounds, two steals and one assist. The Wheaton College men's basketball team received double-digit scoring nights from five separate players to defeat Worcester State University, 76-65, in a non-conference matchup in Emerson Gymnasium on Thursday. Wheaton senior guard Scott Faucher (Lebanon, N.H./Central Catholic) registered a season-high 16 points, four steals and three assists. Sophomore forward Ryan Clinesmith (New York, N.Y./The Hill School) tallied 16 points on 6-of-11 shooting from the floor, six rebounds and three steals. Women’s Basketball Holds Off WPI

The Wheaton College women's basketball team posted a 34-32 victory over Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) matchup on Wednesday night in Emerson Gymnasium on Play 4Kay Cancer Awareness Night and National Girls and Women in Sports Day (NGWSD). At halftime of the contest, the Wheaton College Athletics Department honored 40 of its senior women student-athletes and both of WPI's seniors in conjunction with NGWSD. The Lyons also decorated the gymnasium pink, wore similar colored socks and accepted donations for the Play 4Kay Foundation. Wheaton Basketball Tops Framingham State

Wheaton College freshman guard Billy Battaglia (Simsbury, Conn./The Taft School) and sophomore forward Eddie Capstick (Worcester, Mass./Marianapolis Prep) scored 46 points combined to lead the Lyons basketball team past Framingham State University, 87-73, in non-conference action on Monday afternoon in Emerson Gymnasium.  Capstick led all scorers with a career-high 25 points on 8-of-9 shooting from the field, eight rebounds, three steals, three assists and one block. Capstick also shot 4-for-5 from three-point range and went 5-for-8 at the free throw line.
