Updated Town Charter To Go To Spring Ballot
Town Clerk, Water and Sewer positions to be appointed.
After what turned out to be a four-hour Town Meeting Wednesday, changes to the Town Charter were approved for a spring ballot vote. In addition to fixing grammatical and clerical errors, the approval of this lengthy document would limit elected officials from simultaneously serving two positions. This is so that there are no conflicts of interest. The Town Charter also discussed changes to the Town Clerk, Water and Sewer Commissioner positions. The vote to appoint the Town Clerk is not a matter of losing control. The role of Town Clerk is a detailed and complicated role and should not be a position for the popularity vote. There are many legal aspects of the job as far as reporting election results, etc. to the state. It is also the main focal point for residents.
