Assistant Animal Control Officer Wanted

Applications available at Town Hall.

The Town of Norton is accepting applications for the position of part-time assistant animal control officer.  Responsibilities include performing investigative duties relative to dog complaints and enforcement of Massachusetts General Law Chapter 140 Section 136A - 175 and town leash law, maintaining Norton Animal Shelter, picking up injured animals and working with the Humane Society. This job requires a high school diploma with working knowledge of animals, especially dogs. Associates Degree in Science or Animal Science preferred. The assistant must have the ability to communicate well with the public under a variety of conditions. Hours are flexible. Starting pay is $13.13 per hour. Norton Animal Shelter Pet of the Week: Emma [VIDEO]

This week's dog up for adoption.

Norton Animal Shelter, located just behind Nine Lives at 84 Hill St., has cats and dogs up for adoption. This week, Norton Patch will feature Emma. Emma is a Pit Bull mix. She is a petite girl at 45 pounds. Emma gets along with some other dogs, though she has not been tested around cats. She is about 3 years old. Give 5: Goodness Gracious Run for Rescue [PHOTO GALLERY]

Patch editor "runs" a 10k for this rescue shelter benefit.

Saturday, Nov. 5, runners and their pooches ran a 5 or 10k starting from Winslow Farm Animal Sanctuary to benefit Goodness Gracious Run for Rescue. Goodness Gracious, based in Marblehead, makes human-grade dog treats and donates 51 percent of its profits to community shelters and rescues in towns where its treats are sold. All the net proceeds from their to-be annual run/walk go to benefit local no-kill non-profit animal rescues and shelters. The organization chose Winslow Farm as their first run location. When we first arrived, Achilles was excited to meet the other dogs and sniff and pee on every patch of grass he could find. Norton Animal Shelter, located just behind Nine Lives at 84 Hill St., has cats and dogs up for adoption. This week, Norton Patch will feature Indie. Indie is about 2 years old. She is OK with most other dogs and seems OK with cats. She can be a bit timid with women and seems to do better with men. She does warm up to women once she gets to know them. Indie is playful and likes to play ball. She weighs around 50 lbs. Indie is spayed, up to date on vaccines and tested negative for heartworm and lyme. Norton Animal Shelter Pet of The Week: Hef

Hef is a lovable long-haired cat hoping for a home.

Hef, a domestic black long-haired cat, is a real love bug and if you like big cats, this guy is the one for you. Hef is about a year old with long black fur and weighs about 14 pounds. He just got a haircut though, because his fur was matted. He seems to enjoy the new do. Hef is good with other cats. He is also neutered and updated with vaccines and tested negative for FEL/FIV.
