Congressman Barney Frank told selectmen Thursday it's time the United States stopped being the world's police force, and suggested thousands of troops could be brought back from overseas posts to take their places working to protect the country at home. "There is a major decision facing the U.S. government," Frank said. "The extent to which the world has come to depend on us for military support has to be scaled back." Frank said military spending, some of which has been unnecessary, contributes to the huge pressure felt by local communities, where municipal governments and public safety departments are strapped and struggling.
