Snow Causes Car to Slide into School Bus

No injuries reported.

The most recent snowfall that ran Monday night into Tuesday morning resulted in two crashes in Norton. The first was 4:30 a.m. when a truck hit a utility pole in front of Wheaton College on E. Main Street. The road was not closed and crews are currently working on the pole. No injuries were reported. At 8 a.m., a car slid into the rear of a school bus on Shelly Road.  "Three children were on board the bus, but no injuries [were] reported," said Norton Police Lieutenant Todd Jackson. There was very minor damage done to the vehicles, but both were able to leave on their own.

Snowfall Causes Four Accidents in Norton Wednesday

No major injuries reported.

Wednesday morning’s snowfall caused several accidents, making for a frustrating day for many Norton commuters. At 6:06 a.m., a vehicle struck a tree on Dean Street. An hour later, a vehicle struck a utility pole on S. Worcester Street, causing the wires to fall down across the road. National Grid was called to the scene while S. Worcester Street was blocked off for approximately eight hours while National Grid did work. At 7:44 a.m., a vehicle drove off Bay Road and into the woods. Then finally at 8:58 a.m., a vehicle struck a utility pole at 17 N. Washington St. and was pinned there by another car that slid into it. N. Snow Causes Nine Car Accidents in Town

Seven reported Saturday.

Norton Police Department responded to a total of nine motor vehicle accidents due to the recent storm. Seven were reported on Saturday, Jan. 21, and two reported on Sunday, Jan. 22 as of 10:30 a.m.   On Saturday, the first came in at 7:30 a.m. on Shelly Road where a vehicle had driven off the roadway into an embankment. The vehicle was pulled back onto the roadway and was able to leave under its own power. The same occurred at 8:14 a.m. in the area of 200 Bay Road and at 9:30 a.m. in the area of 299 E. Main Street.  At 10 a.m. on Saturday, a utility pole was struck on Leonard Street at 10 a.m.  The vehicle fled the scene prior to police arrival. Road Accident Map Features Norton Casualties

A new online map reveals 16 of the nearly 370,000 vehicular deaths across the country within an eight-year time frame took place in Norton.

A digital map that was released last month by The Guardian revealing road casualties across the United States between 2001 and 2009 includes 16 deaths in Norton.  Nearly 370,000 people died from vehicular accidents between 2001 and 2009, according to The Guardian, and ITO World, a group of transport data mapping professionals, put together a display of data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.  Zooming into the map reveals eight vehicular deaths, four pedestrian deaths, three motorcycle deaths and one bicyclist death in Norton. Five of these deaths were on Route 495.
