Town remembers victims lost as a result of terrorist attacks 11 years ago.
Eleven years after terrorist attacks were made on American soil, town residents gathered in front of Norton Fire Department for a ceremony to remember those whose lives were lost as a result. Additions to this year's service were the Flag of Honor and Flag of Heroes. The stripes on the flag of Honor were created from the names of those who perished on 9/11 using the most up to date information from the National 9/11 Memorial & Museum. Those on the Flag of Heroes are made up of 343 names, ranks and affiliations of the first responders lost on 9/11 including firefighters, police officers and emergency medical technicians. The flags were flown in Battery Park New York last year during the 10th anniversary memorial service. "Sadly, the number …

Bishop Feehan High School honored the memory of the victims of 9/11 with prayer, reflection and a moment of silence at the Attleboro school Friday morning. The entire student body stood for a special morning prayer dedicated to those who suffered, and still do, from the event, according to the school. Students remained standing while the "National Anthem" and "God Bless America" were sung over the intercom system by Sarah Fischbach of Rehoboth and Meghan Murray of Mansfield. Students were also asked to sit in silence and reflect upon freedom. This was followed by a 10-bell salute for the anniversary and a silent procession to class. “What a powerful experience!” Principal Bill Runey said. “Given how vibrant and full of life our halls are…

The memories are as painful as ever in this special edition of Musings on Motherhood.
Ten years later the shock and horror of the terrorist attacks has not dimmed, especially for the people of Massachusetts. Our family, friends and neighbors were on those planes leaving Logan Airport that fateful day. We will forever be intertwined with the Twin Towers, New York City, The Pentagon and the field in Pennsylvania. I was so moved by the day that I wrote several pages in a journal. Here are a few excepts from that day 10 years ago: 9/11/01 11:23 PM What was normal yesterday has been turned upside down today… Where do I begin? My neighbor called and said a plane just went into the World Trade Center in NYC. I asked if it was an accident or a terrorist act. She didn’t know. I was headed out the door to work, and I said I would …

To help reflect the endless diversity of their experiences, Patch looked out across our sites to pull together 911 snapshots of everyday Americans whose lives were changed by the events of that day. From across the country, this Patch site and hundreds of others captured the faces, keepsakes, memorials, ceremonies, flags, fund-raisers, deployments and the still-raw emotions that followed the attacks. Taken together they create a powerful mosaic that is large in scope but often deeply personal. Click through to see …
Norton residents, fire chief recalls day of terrorist attack on World Trade Center.
Ten years ago, one of the worst terrorist acts to happen on American soil rocked the nation. Though feelings of mourning and even patriotism stemmed from those acts have been in hibernation, the anniversary of 9/11 has brought them back. Norton resident Jenna Chicoine was a sophomore at Tri-County Regional Vocational Technical High School in Franklin when the planes crashed into the twin towers. “I was sitting in my ‘shop’ (Computer Information Systems) when one of my teachers walked by and whispered to a friend and I, ‘Just so you know, someone bombed the pentagon. You heard it first,’” Chicoine recalled. “We thought he was telling a horrible joke. We soon after wheeled in an old TV from the 80s. Someone had to stand up and hold the …
