A follow-up on my own experience. The haircut was nothing great. The barber is one of the most offensive people I've ever seen. Think of the worst racist word you know: he used it to describe the African-Americans where he used to work. Imagine the worst anti-gay stereotypes: he used them to describe other haircutters. Add in the most vulgar obscenities and you'll start to get the idea. And all of it delivered proudly. If you prefer living in the 21st century, stay away from Tom's. I will not be back; I don't want you to be surprised if you go there.
Tom's Barber Shop

Tom's Barber Shop is described by owner Tom Stevens as "an old school mens' barber shop."
Stevens' sense of humor is evident throughout the shop. His restroom is full of humorous pictures and dirty jokes and he will be happy to sell you one of the shop's t-shirts with their slogan, "The more hair we cut, the more head you get!"
The shop is open to men of all ages and the staff will come to you if you can't make the trip. "We will visit nursing homes, houses and hospitals," Stevens says. "If you are there and growing hair, we will be there."

If you are inclined to have your haircut by a racist, homophobic and mysoginistic barber, Tom's is your place. If not, it will be the most uncomfortable 30 minutes of your life. It's sad to hear people claim that speaking out about Tom's knack for spinning racist jokes is in and of itself "hate-speech". Saying Tom's is "free from political correctness" is actually a politically correct way to say that everyone there really appreciates being able to go somewhere where they can spew their hateful vitriol at anyone who's different than them and get a big chuckle out of it too. What a black mark on the Town of Norton if Tom is truly considered "a valuable member of the community,"
Tom's Barber Shop is the last true Men's barber shop. Come on in kick back, laugh and speak freely with no political correctness! You'll get the best cut money can buy also! I could go no where else! 5 stars all the way!
I wholeheartedly agree with Bill's review of Tom's. I do think you did the right thing by not going back, it's not for everyone. However with regard to your "over the top" assessment of the atmosphere, you are off base. I might also point out that self-righteousness when taken to the extreme is in fact hate speech. I find Tom's to be entertaining and in addition to a few minutes of relaxation, I also get a fine haircut for my money. Tom is a charitable and valuable member of our business community and I am glad he operates his business in our fine town. Remember, some of the worst crimes perpertrated against humankind in our history were done in the name of moral superiority and self-righteous zeal.
Tom's is a great place! You laugh all through your visit! Don't go there if you are overly sensitive or if a bit of questionable language is going to offend you. But I take my grandson there to get his hair cut, and it is now his favorite place to go! Tom is a great guy and does a great job. I heartily recommend Tom's Barber Shop!
