Women's Track & Field Posts Several Top Performances At Yale Invitational

Little wins 60-meter hurdles.

The Wheaton College women's track & field team competed in the Yale Invitational, hosted by Yale University, on Saturday afternoon at the Coxe Cage. Today's meet was an unscored friendly which featured such teams as Sacred Heart, Central Connecticut State, Williams and Brown University among others. 

Junior Ashante Little (Seabrook, N.H./Winnacunnet) earned Wheaton's only first place finish of the afternoon capturing top honors in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.87-seconds. Little qualified for the finals with a time of 9.03-seconds in the prelims. 

Little also helped the 4x400-meter relay team to a second place finish as the junior teamed up with senior Samantha Bennett(Weymouth, Mass./Weymouth) and juniors Meredith Scannell (San Marino, Calif./San Marino) and Amber Spencer (Wellesley, Mass./Wellesley) for a total time of 4:01.27.

In the 60-meter dash, senior captain Amanda Claflin (Pembroke, Mass./Pembroke) and freshman Francesca Flynn (Farmington, Conn./Northwest Catholic) both qualified for the finals. Claflin crossed the finish line in fourth place (7.97-seconds) while Flynn posted a sixth place finish (8.13-seconds). In the prelims, Claflin ran a qualifying time of 7.95-seconds and Flynn qualified with a time of 8.16-seconds. 

Claflin also turned in a seventh place performance in the long jump with a mark of 16-feet and 8-inches.

Junior Mollie Lane (Hanover, Mass./Hanover) ranked third in the high jump clearing a height of 5-feet and 3-inches. 

In the one-mile run, freshman Jordan Silva (North Kingstown, R.I./North Kingstown) placed tenth overall with a time of five minutes and 23.30-seconds. Junior Shoshana Kruskal (Newton, Mass./Newton North) was 15th overall in 5:27.31. 

Bennett and Scannell also joined up with freshman Dagmara Sobczyk (Farmington, Conn./Farmington) and sophomore Sonrisa O'Toole(Stockbridge, Mass./Monument Mountain) in the distance medley relay for fourth place overall with a total time of 12:55.10. 

Senior Sylvia Okoye (Stanhope, N.J./Pope John XXIII Regional) placed tenth overall in the shot put with a toss of 36-feet and 2-inches and 13th overall in the weight throw with a distance of 40-feet and 0.50-inches. 

The Lyons return to action on Saturday, Jan. 19 as they will host the Wheaton Invitational in the Beard Field House at 11 a.m.
