Women's Swimming & Diving Places Sixth Overall

Lyons score 263 points over three-day championship.

The Wheaton College women's swimming and diving team wrapped up its 2012-13 season with a sixth place finish at the conclusion of the 2013 New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Swimming and Diving Championships, hosted by MIT, at the Barrie Zesiger Sports and Fitness Center on Sunday evening. 

MIT captured its third-straight conference title with 1,021 points. Springfield College placed second with 740 points, Wellesley College ranked third (457), Coast Guard was fourth (358) and Mount Holyoke College rounded out the top-5 with 286 points. Wheaton finished ahead of Clark University (213), WPI (212), Smith College (180) and Babson College (145). 

Senior co-captain Caroline Isaacs (San Jose, Calif./Archbishop Mitty) started off day three of the NEWMAC Championship finals with an eighth place finish in the 1,650-yard freestyle in a season-best time of 18:10.12. Freshman Ceara Bowman (Centerville, Mass./Portsmouth Abbey School) ranked 14th overall in 18:42.68, senior Julia Kusiak Carey (Shawmut, Maine/Lawrence) finished 19th overall in 19:03.87 and freshman Julia Baynes (Winchester, Mass./Winchester) posted a 20th place performance with a time of 19:07.56.

In the 200-yard backstroke, senior co-captain Dana Auger (Milford, Mass./Milford) touched in a season-best time of 2:12.43 for 11th place overall. Classmate Elle Van Cott (Delmar, N.Y./Bethlehem Central) followed closely behind in 12th place with a time of 2:13.27 while freshman Skyler Dean-Lee (Rocky Hill, Conn./Rocky Hill) was 15th overall in 2:15.31. 

Freshman Courtney Leach (Gilford, N.H./Gilford) swam to a 14th place finish in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 54.40-seconds. Leach came up just shy of surpassing Isaacs' team-best mark of 54.34-seconds from earlier this season.

Senior Kirstie Parkinson (Singapore, Singapore/Singapore American School) finished 14th overall in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:32.63. In the prelims earlier this morning, Parkinson shattered her season-best time of 2:37.62 by more than four-seconds (2:32.43). Freshman Mikaela Puth (Rumson, N.J./Canterbury School) registered a time of 2:39.44 for 23rd place overall. 

In the 200-yard butterfly, sophomore Kelsey White (Bath, Maine/Morse) recorded a season-best time of 2:28.18 for a 22nd place finish overall. Freshman Helen Grant (Suffield, Conn./Loomis Chafee School) held Wheaton's previous high-water mark with a time of 2:33.20. 

Wheaton's 400-yard freestyle relay "A" team of Grant, Leach, Van Cott and sophomore Cara Morris (Irvington, N.Y./Irvington) placed third overall with a time of 3:35.97. The Lyons shattered their season-best time by more than seven seconds (3:42.90). 

Sophomore Callie Renfrew (Vacaville, Calif./The Webb Schools), Auger, Bowman and Isaacs led Wheaton's "B" team to a 15th place finish with a time of 3:48.34.
