Women Fourth, Men Sixth at Conclusion of Swimming, Diving MIT Invitational

Isaacs contributes to three separate top-10 finishes for Lyons.

The Wheaton College men's and women's swimming and diving teams wrapped up day two of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Invitational on Saturday morning at the Barrie Zesiger Sports and Fitness Center with several top performances. The women's squad finished fourth overall out of seven teams while the men ranked sixth out of seven teams.

Senior Caroline Isaacs (San Jose, Calif./Archbishop Mitty)highlighted the women's efforts with two top-10 finishes in relay events and one individual top-10 finish. Isaacs teamed up with classmate Dana Auger (Milford, Mass./Milford), sophomore Cara Morris (Irvington, N.Y./Irvington) and freshman Courtney Leach(Gilford, N.H./Gilford) in the 200-yard medley relay for sixth place overall in 1:52.86.

In the 800-yard freestyle relay, Isaacs joined freshman Julia Baynes(Winchester, Mass./Winchester), senior Julia Kusiak Carey (Shawmut, Maine/Lawrence) and Morris with a sixth place time in 8:12.89. Isaacs also placed sixth overall in the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 4:51.63.

Freshman Skyler Dean-Lee (Rocky Hill, Conn./Rocky Hill) nearly eclipsed the school record in the 100-yard backstroke posting a time of 1:04.60 for 12th place overall. The program record (1:04.23) is held by Nicole Zais (Sudbury, Mass./Lincoln-Sudbury) '11 which was set on March 25, 2011 at the NCAA Championships.

In the100-yard butterfly, Morris ranked seventh overall in 59.89-seconds while Leach followed in tenth place with a time of 1:00.79.

Senior Kirstie Parkinson (Singapore, Singapore/Singapore American School) was eighth overall in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:12.01) and Kusiak Carey placed 14th overall in the 200-yard freestyle (2:03.26).

On the men's side, sophomore Richard Jenkins (Bow, N.H./Bow), senior Sam Neill (Ludlow, Mass./Belchertown), freshman Daniel Spencer (North Yarmouth, Maine/Greely) and sophomore Nick Fredette (Stoneham, Mass./Stoneham) guided the Lyons to their top finish on the afternoon with a fifth place showing in the 800-yard freestyle relay with a total time of 7:09.93.

R. Jenkins also placed tenth overall in the 100-yard backstroke with a tie of 55.10-seconds.

In the 200-yard medley relay, junior Emerson Jenkins (Kansas City, Mo./Pembroke Hill School), sophomore Corey Hedges (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury), Spencer and Neill compiled a time of 1:39.95 for eighth place overall.

Freshman Jeremy Zak (Clifton, N.J./Montclair Kimberley Academy) was tenth overall in the 400-yard individual medley in four minutes and 26.39-seconds while Fredette checked in at 11th overall in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:44.99.

Freshman Christian Tinory (Attleboro, Mass./Bishop Feehan) registered a time of 1:03.03 in the 100-yard breaststroke for 14th place overall and Spencer was 17th overall in the 100-yard butterfly in 53.58-seconds to round out the men's performances in the MIT Invitational.

Wheaton returns to the pool on Friday, Jan. 11 as the Lyons host Clark University in Balfour Natatorium at 1 p.m.
