Wheaton Women's Track and Field Place Second, Men 10th at Fitchburg State

Lyons to compete at New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championship Saturday.

The Wheaton College women's outdoor track & field team placed second and the men finished 10th at the Fitchburg State University/Eric Loeshner Invitational Saturday afternoon.

Seniors Ashley Dell'Aira (Shoreham, N.Y./Shoreham) and Didine Jusme (Providence, R.I./Classical), along with sophomore Meredith Scannell (San Marino, Calif./San Marino), each recorded first-place finishes for the Lyons. Dell'Aira won the triple jump (40' 2"), Jusme took first in the 100m hurdles (14.50), and Scannell won the 400m dash (57.81).

Sophomore Ashante Little (Seabrook, N.H./Winnacunnet) placed second in the 200m dash (25.04). Junior Sylvia Okoye (Stanhope, N.J./Pope John XXIII) took second in the discus (112' 9') and fourth in the shot put (34' 1 1/4"). Freshman Stephanie Raymond (Peabody, Mass./Peabody Veterans Memorial) captured third in the 800m run (2:30.28). Classmate Nichole Haar (East Providence, R.I./East Providence) earned third in the 100m hurdles (16.72).

Senior Mickey Jusme (Providence, R.I./Classical) was fourth in the triple jump (35' 6"). Fifth-place finishers included D. Jusme in the 400m hurdles (1:11.27), senior Tope Waheed (East Providence, R.I./East Providence) in the shot put (33' 3"), and sophomore Mollie Lane (Hanover, Mass./Hanover) in the long jump (16' 3 1/4").

On the men's side, senior Mark Williamson (Vienna, Va./James Madison) won the 100m dash (11.31). Junior Karl Mader (Northfield, Minn./Northfield) placed eighth in the 400m dash (52.45) while the Lyons 4x100 'A' meter relay team captured first with a time of 42.78.
