The Brockton Rox of the Futures Collegiate Baseball League (FCBL) added a trio of pitchers to their 2012 roster, including Norton native A.J. Bashaw, a freshman right-hander from the New Jersey Institute of Technology.
Bashaw is in the midst of his freshman year at Division I NJIT of the Great West Conference. As of May 1, the 19-year old appeared in three games out the bullpen, allowing three runs on two hits and three walks.
Bashaw was a standout at , where he played for two seasons under current Rox assistant coach . As a senior in 2011, Bashaw was named Tri-Valley League Pitcher of the Year, finishing with a 7-2 record, four complete games, two shutouts, and 86 strikeouts and a 1.07 ERA in 65 innings pitched. That same season, he set the school-record for strikeouts in a single game with 17. Bashaw helped guide Norton to the 2010 Division 3 State Championship as a junior and was named the MIAA South Sectional State Tournament & Boston Globe State MVP. The right-hander picked up the win in the title game, striking out seven in 6.1 innings of work, while surrendering two earned runs on nine hits in a season-high 129-pitch effort.
