The Lancers beat Westport 27-18

A back and forth game, it turns out all the Norton Middle School girls' basketball team needed to get past Westport in the Massasoit League Championship game was one timely run. After a quick layup from Kayla O’Keefe to start the game, the Lancers earned their early points at the free throw line to build a 7-3 lead midway though the first half.

While struggling to find baskets, Norton was able to stay within one possession of Westport after falling behind 10-7 with less than two minutes to play in the half. Christi Brennan’s layup got the Lancers to within one, but Westport was able to get out of the half with an 11-9 lead.

Maddie Murphy tied the game at the start of the second half after stealing the ball and scoring a quick layup. Westpot got the lead back up to three at 16-13 but it would be all Lancers from that point on.

Murphy’s putback cut the lead to one and then a free throw from O’Keefe tied the game at 16-16 with less than nine minutes remaining in the game.
One last Westport lead would come from a jump shot but Hannah John’s putback and Brooke Williams’s layup gave Norton the lead for good.
