Norton Fifth Grade Girls Win D1 Championship

Went 15-0 on the season.

Norton fifth grade Girls Division 1 Metro West basketball just completed a 15-0 championship season.

The girls went 3-0 in play-offs after a 12-0 regular season.

Norton beat Westwood in overtime Sunday at Mass Premier Courts in Foxborough to capture the Division 1 Championship.  The girls worked hard and had outstanding commitment starting with four pre-season tournaments, multiple pre-season scrimmages and practices in October and November and a February Vacation Tournament to get ready to defend the league title. They went 11-1 in 2010/11 for 4th Grade League title, but lost the championship game to Braintree 35-32.

“We know that none of this was possible without the tremendous commitment of the parents – Thank you parents,” said assistant coach Eric Johnson on behalf of all the coaches.

The team started and finished strong, winning the Braintree Challenge pre-season tournament in November.  Being so close to the championship last year made their performance and accomplishments that much more significant and satisfying this season.  Norton fifth grade girls were the only team in Division 1 Metro West, which includes grades four through eight, boys and girls, to have an undefeated championship season.

The championship team consists of Kirsten Lauren and Kassidy Fields at center, Michelle Belcher, Taylor Nordbeck, Jacqueline Conroy at power forward, Rachael Johnson at point forward, Christina Phillips and Madi Saba at two guard and Sarah John and Mallory Secher at point guard.  Head coach is John Conroy assisted by Eric Johnson and Chris John.
