The Wheaton College men's soccer team racked up five first-half goals on Wednesday en route to a 7-1 victory over visiting Emmanuel College during the Lyons' Senior Day and regular season finale at Keefe Field.
Playing the Saints for the first time in program history while raising its home mark to 8-1-1 this fall, Wheaton saw its overall record improve to 9-6-4. Emmanuel wrapped up its season this afternoon, falling to 4-12-2.
Host sophomore Scott Enman (Brooklyn, N.Y./Packer Collegiate Institute) and freshman Michael Williams (Los Angeles, Calif./Millbrook School) each scored his first two goals of the season to lead the Lyons.
Senior Will Nesbitt (Holliston, Mass./Holliston) picked up the game-winning goal midway through the opening half, converting a cross from sophomore Brian Kenny (Mount Vernon, N.Y./Iona Prep) at 23:15. Freshman Noah Kossoff (New York, N.Y./Birch Wathen Lenox School) put Wheaton on the scoreboard at 11:42.
Back-to-back Enman tallies at 28:35 and 35:46 provided the Lyons with a comfortable 4-0 advantage. With 1:02 to play in the first frame, Williams headed home Wheaton's fifth goal.
Midway through the second half, Saint freshman David Field (Laguna Niguel, Calif./Saint Margaret's Episcopal) made the score 5-1, which stood until the waning minutes of the stanza.
Freshman Michael Cronin (Wethersfield, Conn./Wethersfield) pushed the Lyon lead back to five at 85:37 before Williams closed out the scoring with one second on the clock.
Blue and White sophomore goalie Jeff Paer (Fair Lawn, N.J./Fair Lawn) finished with one save in his complete-game effort, while Emmanuel freshman James Withers (East Taunton, Mass./Coyle and Cassidy) was credited with five stops.
The Lyons finished with a 20-13 advantage in shots, including a 14-4 edge in the opening half, and took all six corner kicks.
Wheaton will now await Saturday's New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) results before learning its final placement in the league standings and seed for next week's conference tournament.
