Lyons Softball Season Ends With NEWMAC Tournament Loss

Wheaton loses 3-0 to Wellesley.

The softball team saw its season come to a close with a 3-0 loss at Wellesley College in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Tournament Saturday afternoon at Potter Field.

Wheaton (19-22) fell behind 1-0 in the first as Wellesley freshman Maria LaBouyer (Yuba City, Calif./Yuba City) laced a one-out doubled and came around to score on a single by sophomore Jayne Ellis (Michawaka, Ind./Penn).

Wellesley (19-18-1) sophomore Lindsay Johnson (Bellingham, Wash./Sehome) led off the fifth with a single, went to third on a pair of bunts, and scored on a sac fly off the bat of junior Lauren Goldfarb (Albuquerque, N.M./La Cueva) to double the Blue's lead. LaBouyer followed with a single to center to plate freshman Abby Casey (Milford, Conn./Lauralton Hall) and make it 3-0.

Sophomore Allison Baker (Orange, Conn./Amity Regional) suffered the loss for the Lyons, allowing six hits and three runs with one strikeout over six innings. Johnson, meanwhile, scattered five hits and struck out four to earn her seventh win of the season.

Senior Valerie Tratner (Forest Hills, N.Y./Saint Francis Prep) was one of five Lyons with a hit, along with junior Megan Roy (North Dighton, Mass./Dighton-Rehoboth Regional), sophomores Jenna Rocha (Rehoboth, Mass./Dighton-Rehoboth Regional) and Ashley Brillon (Attleboro, Mass./Bishop Feehan), and freshman Aimee Avila (North Dighton, Mass./Dighton-Rehoboth Regional). LaBouyer finished with two hits for Wellesley, which advances to face Coast Guard in an elimination game at 4 p.m.
