Lyons Continue Season at Non-Scoring Batterman Relays

Lyons travel to league school WPI on Saturday.

The Wheaton College men's and women's swimming & diving teams competed at the annual Charlie Batterman Relays on Saturday at fellow New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) school Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). 
  
Joining the host, Division II Bentley University and Roger Williams University, the Lyons turned in several top-four finishes during the non-scoring meet at the Zesiger Pool. 
  
For the men, Wheaton placed third in the 200-yard breaststroke and butterfly relay events.  On the breast relay that finished in 2:02.35 were senior Griffin Hanley (Andover, Mass./North Andover), junior Alex Garneau (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury) and sophomores Cory Hedges (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury) and Dominic Ziolek (Londonderry, N.H./Londonderry). 
  
Juniors Sam Jackson (Darien, Conn./Darien) and Emerson Jenkins (Kansas City, Mo./Pembroke Hill School) and freshmen Daniel Spencer (North Yarmouth, Maine/Greely) and Christian Tinory (Attleboro, Mass./Bishop Feehan)comprised the fly relay team that completed the race in 1:42.09. 
  
The Lyons also turned in a pair of fourth-place marks, including in the 200 backstroke and 400 freestyle relays.  Touching the wall in 1:51.16, the back relay team consisted of Hedges, Jackson, junior Kyle Wilson (Cumberland, Maine/Greely)and sophomore Richard Jenkins (Bow, N.H./Bow).  Making up the 400 free relay quartet that posted a time of 3:24.67 were Richard Jenkins, Spencer, Wilson and senior Sam Neill (Ludlow, Mass./Belchertown). 
  
The women took third in the 200 butterfly relay in 1:53.49, which consisted of sophomores Cara Morris (Irvington, N.Y./Irvington) and Kelsey White (Bath, Maine/Morse) and first-year swimmers Helen Grant (Suffield, Conn./Loomis Chaffee School) and Courtney Leach (Gilford, N.H./Gilford). 
  
Wheaton also turned in four fourth-place marks.  The 200 backstroke relay team of seniors Dana Auger (Milford, Mass./Milford) and Elle Van Cott (Delmar, N.Y./Bethlehem Central), sophomore Lauren Naruse (Wailuku, Hawaii/Seabury Hall) and freshman Skyler Dean-Lee (Rocky Hill, Conn./Rocky Hill) recorded a time of 2:00.59. 
  
Senior Caroline Isaacs (San Jose, Calif./Archbishop Mitty) and freshmen Ceara Bowman (Centerville, Mass./Portsmouth Abbey School), Merrill McCluskey (Nantucket, Mass./Nantucket) and Mikaela Puth (Rumson, N.J./Canterbury School) took fourth in the 200 breast relay in 2:24.39. 
  
The Lyons' 400 free relay team that finished in 4:30.96 was comprised of Bowman, Grant, Isaacs and Morris, while their 500 free relay squad that notched a time of 5:01.57 consisted of Isaacs, Leach, Morris and freshman Kelsey Meyer (Malvern, Pa./Conestoga). 
  
The Lyons travel to league school WPI on Saturday for the New England Invitational at 1 p.m.
