Lyon's Tennis Completes Season 7-7

Men lose 7-2 d to Oneonta State.

senior Neall Oliver (Portland, Maine/Deering) closed his collegiate career with a win at No. 1 singles for Wheaton College, which dropped a 7-2 decision at Oneonta State in non-conference men's tennis action Sunday afternoon at the Heissan Tennis Courts.

Oliver notched a 6-4, 6-1 win over freshman David Goldberg (Scarsdale, N.Y./Scarsdale) for his 10th win of the season. The Lyons picked up their other point of the match at No. 1 doubles, where Oliver and sophomore Ned Terrace (Chappaqua, N.Y./Horace Greeley) knocked off Goldberg and freshman Mackenzie Park 8-3 (Elmira, N.Y./Elmira Free Academy).

Sophomore Dan Sharon (Santa Monica, Calif./Brentwood School)lost a three-set match to senior Adam Shapiro (East Rockaway, N.Y./Lynnbrook) at No. 2 singles. He won the first set 6-4 but was upended 6-3 in the second and lost 18-16 in a third-set breaker.

At No. 3 singles, Park downed Terrace in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1. Sophomore Sam Jackson (Darien, Conn./Darien) fell at No. 4 singles to senior Joey Milstein (Slingerlands, N.Y./Guilderland), 6-3, 3-6, 10-6. Freshman Lawrence Chan (Lincoln, R.I./Wheeler School) lost 6-2, 6-3 at No. 5 singles to senior Joshua Slifkin (Flushing, N.Y./Slifkin), and freshman Brendon Pickering (Merrimack, Mass./Waring School) was defeated 6-0, 6-2 at No. 6 singles by senior Adam Slifkin (Flushing, N.Y./Nordhoff).

In doubles, Shapira and J. Slifkin downed Sharon and Chan 8-6 at No. 2 while Milstein and A. Slifkin scored an 8-0 win over juniors William Beaton (Groveland, Mass./Pentucket) and Kyle Kiernan (Topsfield, Mass./Masconomet Regional).
