Lancers Boys Soccer Fall to Dover-Sherborn

Despite keeping it scoreless for the first 64 minutes, the Raiders get 2 goals in 11 minutes to win 2-0.

It was only a matter of time before the Dover-Sherborn Raiders got a goal against the Norton Lancers. Pressuring the Lancers for most of the game, the Raiders knew that taking their foot off the accelerator at any moment could lead to a Lancer’s advantage.

"We played very well," said Lancer coach Eric Greene. "I'm very proud of my team. DS is a great team, and I think we played right along with them. We did a much better job than the first time we played them."

“We always have battles with these guys," said Raiders coach Joe Gruseck. "They’re blue collar. They’re gonna play hard and we gotta be ready to play them.”

Playing hard and controlling the ball in the first half, the Raiders got the first goal of the game after a drag back pass from Sam Hunter to Perry Fitz to the left for a back post goal in the 65th minute.

“Just a nice job tucking it in back post,” Gruseck said.

Despite a few opportunities, the Lancers could not find the back of the net. Sam Jordan was able to get the ball to Hunter inside the keeper’s box in the 76th minute to put the game away with a final goal.

What at times looked like a chance for the Lancers to pull of an upset was quickly put away with the two goals. Sam Fleck led the way with a goal and an assist. Jordan had an assist and Fitz had a goal.

"I think that Kevin Rogers did a fantastic job at defense for us," Greene said. "Kolin Campbell also had a great game at center midfield. We are doing a much better job controlling the ball. We need to continue to work on finishing, but overall I'm pleased with our efforts."

With the win the Raiders remain unbeaten and at the top of the Tri Valley League standings at 10-0-1 with 21 points while the Lancers are 3-4-3 with 9 points.

Next up for the Lancers will be a trip to Hopkinton for a match against the Hillers. Match time is set for 6:45 p.m. The Raiders will once again put their unbeaten record on the line again at Medfield. Match time is scheduled for 6:45 p.m.
