Former Weymouth High School and Wheaton College baseball star Chris McDonough always dreamed of playing at Fenway Park.
This month he received his chance as a member of the Al Thomas A’s of the amateur Yawkey Baseball League.
McDonough was selected as a member of the All-Star team and while making his first appearance on the Fenway mound, he suffered a painful injury, the Boston Herald reported.
While pitching, he broke his humerus bone, which connects the elbow to the shoulder. According to the Herald, the sound of the bone breaking was so loud that it was picked up by a video camera in center field
Although he had to be helped off the field and rushed to the nearby Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, McDonough knows he had a special day.
He told the Herald: “I made it to the mound where Clemens and Pedro pitched…. I’ll always have that.”
