Wheaton Included in Fiske Guide to Colleges

Former education editor praises college.

This year Wheaton College was among 23 Massachusetts schools to be included in the Fiske Guide to Colleges.

Compiled by former New York Times education editor Edward B. Fiske, Fiske Guide to Colleges 2013 is a selective, subjective and systematic look at 300+ colleges and universities in the U.S., Canada, and Great Britain. There are more than 2,200 four-year colleges in the United States.

Fiske says that Wheaton College attracts some of the nation’s best and brightest students with its solid programs in the school sciences, fine arts and humanities.

“Selection has gotten more competitive over the years, with each incoming class even stronger than the one that came before,” Fiske said. “Since 2000, more than 130 Wheaton students have received national fellowships, including three Rhodes scholars and 4 Marshall scholars. The college remains among the top 10 liberal arts colleges for Fulbright scholars as well.”

Also in the excerpt for Wheaton College, Fiske praises the location and athletics program.

“Wheaton’s rural location offers few distractions from intellectual pursuits,” he said.

The book is available for $23.99. The Fiske Guide to Colleges is also available as an iPad app on iTunes and a Web app on CollegeCountdown.com
