Notebook for April 30 School Committee Meeting

School Committee to find interim superintendent, Superintendent Search Committee.

  • The School Committee discussed options in the search for a new superintendent. They voted that they will seek an interim and begin the process all over again in September after they form a new Superintendent Search Committee.
  • There was a reorganization of the Norton School Committee at Monday night’s meeting. Phillip Lynch was welcomed to the Committee. Andrew Mackie is the chairman while Deniz Savas was voted in as the vice chairman. Marge Werner will be the legislative representative. Andrew Mackie will take a seat on the High School Building Committee. Beth McManus and Savas will be School Committee negotiation representatives. Lynch will become more familiar with different departments through the Capital Improvements Committee.

  • Bryce McCarthy will be joining Evan Dasilva and Caleb Tripp at the National DECA Competition.
  • The Committee voted to authorize superintendent Dr. Patricia Ansay and School Committee chairperson Andrew Mackie to sign the Massachusetts School Building Authority Accelerated Repair Program terms and conditions document for the J. C. Solmonese Elementary School roof. The School Committee is unable to spend any funds until the project is approved at Town Meeting.
  • Announcements- Prom is Saturday, May 5 at Lake Pearl Lucianos; the Norton High School Art Show is Wednesday, May 2, 6 to 8 p.m.; Class Night will be held 7 p.m. June 5 in the gymnasium where students will be honored with awards and scholarships; Chris Rappold of Personal Best Karate recently helped with Career Day; Tim Giblin was voted in as the Board of Selectmen chairman.
