Norton Named One of the Worst College Towns

Princeton Review lists Wheaton College town as #8.

Norton is one of the worst college towns in America, according to The Princeton Review.

The college preparation site compiled thousands of student opinions to create a list of the worst college towns. Norton, home to Wheaton College, was #8 on the list. Several liberal arts schools in out-of-the-way towns were included, along with the occasional city.

Wheaton College, though historic, is one of those liberal arts colleges. The vast majority of students live on campus and stick around for Friday and Saturday, but the school’s restrictive drug and alcohol policies drive of-age students to party off campus. One popular hangout is Sportsway Cafe, which has recently been the subject of accusations from Wheaton students.

The small town location is described as “not the most ideal.”

“Norton is not a college town,” said one student, but there’s a bus that runs from the school to the nearest train station, which is “very, very, very convenient to go to Boston or Providence.” Cars are almost a necessity for getting off campus.
