By Liz Taurasi:

A new, easy, online tool will now help drivers who may have bought a lemon determine if they qualify for relief under the state’s Lemon Law.

The Massachusetts Office of Consumer Affairs and Business Regulation has launched a new, online, consumer-friendly Lemon Law qualification application.

Drivers who have purchased or recently purchased a new or leased vehicle that isn’t working properly may qualify for Lemon Law protection, which would guarantee them access to a replacement vehicle or refund.

In a statement released last week, Consumer Affairs and Business Regulation Undersecretary Barbara Anthony said the new service would help mitigate the frustration of consumers who have been disappointed by a recently purchased vehicle.

“Motorists will be able to more easily collect the benefits and protections guaranteed to them by state lemon laws,” she said. “Clarity and simplicity are the keys to helping consumers put the law to work for them.”

The application walks users through the provisions of the state’s lemon laws, looking for yes and now answers to questions that include everything from the vehicle’s new or used status, to the amount of time that has passed since the vehicle was purchased, to the vehicle’s mileage.

After answering the questions, users will learn if they qualify. If they do, they are directed to the paperwork that needs to be submitted. If they do not, they have an option to apply through a form made available to them.
