Route 495 Exit a Safety Concern, Selectmen Say

Selectmen expressed concern over the Route 495 exit onto Route 123.

Selectmen expressed concern last week about the Norton highway exit at the junction of Route 495 and Route 123.

Chair Robert Kimball said he had noticed a high volume of commuters exiting from Route 495 South. Rather than taking a left, drivers are taking a right before making a U-turn further up the road.

Selectmen agreed to contact state officials to express the traffic concern, noting that it is one of the few exits in the area without a traffic light for easy left-hand turns.

Town Manager Michael Yunits said he could access traffic numbers and crash reports from the Norton Police Dept. to disclose to the state and further explore the issue.

"It is a dangerous location getting in and out of there," Kimball said.
