Norton to Preserve 42 Acres off of Crane St.

Town Meeting voters approved a measure this week.

Norton voters approved a measure this week that will allow the town to make necessary arrangements to preserve 42-acres off of Crane St.

The land, known as "Crane Farm" was the subject of Article 12 at Monday's Town Meeting. The total cost of the land is $4,000, however Conservation Agent Jennifer Carlino told Town Meeting voters that the town would only spend $5,000 on the purchase.

"It’s a real collaborative effort between a number of players," she said.

Norton will apply for a LAND grant in the amount of $259,000. The remainder of the funds will come from fundraising efforts from the Land Preservation Society - a a non-profit, independent conservation group in Norton.

Carlino said Norton would only expend its $5,000 if the other funding sources come through.
