Norton Historical Building May Become Yogurt Shop

The Norton Board of Selectmen discussed the possibility of a removing the old bank building on East Main Street, now designated as a historical building.

The owner of the building, Jack Nicholas, went before the Historical Commission on Tuesday to discuss his plan to tear down the old building and build a yogurt shop in its place.

“They’re planning on taking down the existing building,” said town manager Michael Yunits.

Selectmen chair Robert Kimball said while he feels new business in Norton is needed, he doesn’t see the feasibility in the location of the shop.

“This board has always been very pro business,” he said. “We have to be open minded about these types of proposals, but I for one would not agree to a yogurt shop. I don’t know how it could possibly work there.”

Selectman Bradford Bramwell suggested the shop may rely on its close location to Wheaton College for foot traffic from the students.
