New Member Appointed to Waterbodies Committee

The committee is tasked with cleaning up Norton's waterbodies.

The Norton Waterbodies Committee has a new member.

Selectmen last week approved the appointment of Mark Burgess to the committee by a vote of 4-0.

Burgess, who has been a resident since the early 1980's, said he has enjoyed fishing and boating all of his life.

"I thought that I could be a valuable asset to the board," he said.

Burgess' appointment came the week after Town Meeting voters overwhelmingly approved a warrant article to designate $50,000 towards hiring a consultant to the cleaning of Norton's waterbodies.

Particular concern at Town Meeting centered around Lake Winnecunnet. Selectmen chair Robert Kimball, however, said the focus should be on all four of Norton's waterbodies.

"It has to be a town wide project," he said. "If we start segregating one and not the other three, it will be a ‘why do they do it for them and not for me’ thing."
