In honor of a decorated Army specialist from Cape Cod who died of non-combat injuries in December, Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick has ordered the flags of the United States and the Commonwealth to fly at half-staff at all state buildings from sunrise to sunset this Saturday, Jan. 11.

SPC Ryan A. Goldie, 28, was born in Wareham and graduated from Upper Cape Cod Regional Technical School, working as a plumber's apprentice before entering the Army in 2010, according to his obituary from Chapman, Cole and Gleason Funeral Homes. He was based in Ft. Bliss, Texas.

Patrick's order to lower the flags in Goldie's honor Saturday applies to town and city halls, other state-owned or state-controlled buildings and state military installations.
