State Sen. Barry Finegold of Andover is set to make his state treasurer bid official Wednesday at the Georgetown Housing Complex Community Center in Hyde Park.

Finegold expressed interest in the seat last May, after State Treasurer Steve Grossman announced he would run for governor.

Finegold, 42, was elected to the Senate representing the 2nd Essex and Middlesex District -- which includes Andover, Tewksbury, Dracut and Lawrence -- in 2010 and won reelection in 2012. He previously served as a state representative for the Essex 17th District for 11 years and as a selectman in Andover.

Finegold made an unsuccessful bid for Congress in a 2007 special election to fill Congressman Marty Meehan's seat, losing to current Congresswoman Niki Tsongas.
