East Main Street Construction Public Hearing to be Held Tonight

Construction to include repaving and sidewalk.

A public informational meeting will be held by the Norton Highway Department to discuss the proposed E. Main Street roadway reconstruction project. The meeting is to be held 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 23 at Norton Public Library.

The purpose of this meeting is to provide the public with the opportunity to become acquainted with the proposed project, which will take place between Pine Street and Route 495. Improvements will consist of box widening and roadway repavement reclamation to provide a consistent roadway cross section with two 11-foot travel lanes and two 4-foot paved shoulders.

The project will also include the installation of a 5-foot wide sidewalk on at least one side of E. Main Street. The sidewalk will be a hot mix asphalt walk with granite curb. A hot mix asphalt berm will be placed on the side of the roadway without sidewalk. The project proposes to install a formal closed drainage system including catch basins with hoods and sumps and provide an appropriate level of pre-treatment prior to discharging to the watersheds.

The proposed improvements are intended to be constructed entirely within the existing 40-foot-wide layout and will conform to all Massachusetts Department of Transportation design guidelines and engineering directives. No design waivers or land takins are anticipated to construct this project. However, there may need to be several temporary construction easements required to perform the neccessary re-grading beyond the limits of the roadway and sidewalk. The town assumes the responsibility for obtaining any and all right-of-way documents and agreements required to construct this project.
